Ten years in Fanjeaux
Over the Ascension week-end, the board members of the Association of Sister Historians of the Order of Preachers met at their headquarters in Fanjeaux - a village with so many Dominican memories. This was to mark the tenth anniversary of their association's beginnings, but also to reflect on options for the future.
Activities of the association over the last ten years
Creation of a Library to bring together printed materials devoted to the history of Dominican women - nuns, apostolic sisters, secular institutes and lay Dominicans. Surprisingly several thousands of volumes have already been catalogued: it is surprising how much is out there once you start to search. Many languages are featured, including Japanese, Greek and Russian.
Distance Learning courses, created and distributed on line to increase awareness of the history of Dominican women and as a tool in formation. Four cpurses are already completed and are now distributed through a partnership with the on-line Dominican university DOMMUNI, see www.domuni.org
- Prouilhe and the Beginnings of the Order
- The development and expansion of Dominican nuns
- Catherine of Siena, a Dominican woman
- The Beginnings of Dominican life for women in Central and South America
Publishing - four titles to date
Hospitality for researchers and interested members of the Dominican family.
Lectures and talks by invitation, often for groups of pilgrims visiting Fanjeaux.
